Desperate

I watched an episode of "High School Reunion":http://highschoolreunion.warnerbros.com/ today. It's a reality show just like any other reality show, but it kept me wondering one thing about people in the US: are they all really desperate and think any meeting between two people of the opposite sexes is an opportunity to find a date? Ok, this may (or may not) be a representative part of the population, but come on! All they do is hang out and look for a partner. What ever happened to being friends with people? I thought *I* was desperate, but compared to these people I'm as patient as they come. Or maybe I'm just getting good at this "love comes when you don't look for it"-thingy.
