Nikken class action lawsuit

Back in late 2001 I went to a presentation by some Norwegian distributors of the Nikken products. Afterwards I did quite a bit of research and wrote about what I found. First only in Norwegian but then a German guy asked me if I could translate it, so I did.

I could write a whole lot about the reactions I've gotten on that paper, but instead I'll write shortly about this lawsuit I was told about.

Birthdays

Ok, let's get it over with: I'm now officially 29 years old.

It all happened yesterday and I've retroposted this with the right date so anyone wanting to can remember it 'till next year.

While being out walking earlier today I came to think about what my age is in hexadecimal. It's 0x1D, something I think sounds like some odd bra size, which doesn't fit me particularly well since I'm male. I don't wear bras either, even though some males do. I actually don't wear any women's underwear at all.

What did I get for my birthday? It all started with cakes with candles and pleasant company, which was a really good start. Then I visited my parents and got a Playstation 2 and also a Pooh-sign saying "Quiet! I'm studying!" Am considering hanging it on my front door. :)

Birthday greetings were ticking in all day long through various media and I went happily to bed near midnight, after having seen the mandatory report from the Brazil GP at Interlagos.

Easter

"I visited Oslo once, but it was closed."
Tourist after visiting Oslo in the easter of 1977

Oslo's a much livelier town now though, lots of caf駸 open during the easter holiday, and actually some grocery stores too. Just in case you're planning on stopping by.

Song of the day

"Don't Give Up" by Peter Gabriel

Got the "Secret World Live" DVD in the mail today, and promptly sat down to watch it. The live version of "Don't give up" is just so good it brings me to tears.

Happy Birthday

Norwegian flag waving

Happy birthday to Norway! We've turned 189 today. Now, time to go watch the royalties and eat unhealthy amounts of ice cream.

Surveys

After having spent several more hours on the road so I can have my own bunad for my 30th birthday (in case you're wondering what it'll look like, it'll be akin to "this":http://www.husfliden.no/felles/visdetalj.asp?ID=47&Felt=URL_Bilde_Stor (warning: huge image)) I ended up passing a bit of time by participating in the "FHM Global Sex Survey 2003":http://www.fhm.co.uk/surveys/sexsurvey2003/defaulted.htm and wondering why on earth none of the Norwegian ones I've participated in featured interesting questions.

Desperate

I watched an episode of "High School Reunion":http://highschoolreunion.warnerbros.com/ today. It's a reality show just like any other reality show, but it kept me wondering one thing about people in the US: are they all really desperate and think any meeting between two people of the opposite sexes is an opportunity to find a date? Ok, this may (or may not) be a representative part of the population, but come on! All they do is hang out and look for a partner. What ever happened to being friends with people? I thought *I* was desperate, but compared to these people I'm as patient as they come. Or maybe I'm just getting good at this "love comes when you don't look for it"-thingy.

Games

Something tells me that I'll lose a lot of time trying out all the games over on "Orisinal":http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/ (warning: Flash needed) They might not score high on playability all of them, but boy do they look pretty.

Spam

I've finally figured out how these "Advertise to xx million people" do it. They've actually only got the email address of one person (or at most a dozen), and then that's the one who gets xx million copies. The beauty of doing it that way is that they can freely change the number of people and thereby advertise more often. You see, I got them (8) emails today saying that they had anywhere from 30.7 to 35.9 million addresses they could spam, and the numbers weren't increasing by each email. I could still be wondering when they'll make up their mind about the total, if I actually cared.

Next choice of reading

It seems I've somehow created myself a preference for reading books about society (except right before sleeping, when I read Terry Pratchett's Discworld series). Last Christmas got me No Logo by Naomi Klein, and this spring/summer I've been through both Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. The problem now is where to go next. These three books have given me an appetite for this kind of material, but there's currently no book standing next in line. Should I read Naomi Klein's followup "Fences and Windows"? Or maybe go in a totally different direction? I'm open for any suggestions.

I'm supposed to start being a student again, not play "DHTML Lemmings":http://crew.tweakers.net/crisp/lemmings/

$5 for me

I got an email with information about "register.com's class action settlement":http://www.register.com/zurakov/notice.html and I'm being awarded the amazingly huge amount of $5. Provided I don't opt-out that is. I've gotten the laws of class action lawsuits explained to me, so I'm not really suprised that the guy representing the class gets lots of money, and his lawyers even more. At the moment I'm considering whether I should submit an email and complain that awarding the $5 to charity is not an option, even though I know this is contrary to how settlements are usually done. Of course there's a way around it, I can accept the $5 and after having paid my domain renewal send the $5 to charity, but I'd rather prefer them having to do it directly. Could amount to a few more dollars too.

The Sisterchicks...

...go searching for their brains in several wrong places, hoping that the Lord will help them out and mark the spot with an X. Let me clear things up at the start: this book review will spoil the exciting parts of the story. If you want to read the book and be surprised by what happens, stop reading my review.
